NHS Approved Pulse Oximeter - there's no such thing!

  • The NHS does not approve or recommend pulse oximeters or other medical devices. Beware of anyone selling you an 'NHS Approved Pulse Oximeter'

  • Medical device manufacturers in the UK follow a self-certifying safety scheme, called CE [in the past this was called 'Kite Mark'] and the MHRA regulates device manufacturers use of the mark. In the near future, this will become the UKCA mark.

  • NHS Doctors usually say, 'you can use any CE-marked oximeter'
